The influential dissident Vladimir Bukovskii played a formative role in the creation of the Soviet human rights movement and the exposure of the abuse of psychiatry in the USSR. After his exile to the West in 197 6, he became involved in a wider anti-Communist network, and became a forceful commentator on Cold War issues.
