BACKGROUND Vitamin D insufficiency and high levels of parathyroid hormone (PTH) appear to be emerging risk factors for metabolic syndrome (MS), diabetes and cardiovascular disease, conditions that occur frequently in patients with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS).
