The aim of this study was to determine vitamin D status and bone mineral density (BMD) in elderly, independent Scandinavians. A cross-sectional examination was conducted in a sample of 104 subjects (mean age 84.5 years), for possible correlations among anthropometric data, 25-hydroxyvitamin D, 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D, intact parathyroid hormone (PTH) and femoral neck BMD.
