At the first international Visualization Summit, more than 100 international researchers and practitioners defined and assessed nine original and important research goals in the context of Visualization Science, and proposed methods for achieving these goals by 2010. The synthesis of the whole event is presented in the 10th research goal. This article contributes a building block for systemizing visualization research by proposing mutually elaborated research goals with defined milestones. Such… Expand

Is Visualization Usable for Displaying Web Search Results in an Exploratory Search Context?
TLDR
The research aims to identify the dynamic and interactive graphics that use a search visual interface (versus text) and the gain in terms of usability compared to strategic and tactical requirements of the task of exploratory search on the Web exploratory type. Expand
Graph and chart aesthetics for experts and laymen in design: The role of familiarity and perceived ease of use
TLDR
Correlational analyses suggest that designers and laymen’s attractiveness judgments after use were affected not by actual usability but by perceived ease of use of the graphs. Expand

  • Computer Science
  • Knowledge and Information Visualization
  • 2005
TLDR
A first theoretical framework and a model for the new field of knowledge visualization are presented, which describes guidelines and principles derived from professional practice and previous research on how architects successfully use complementary visualizations to transfer and create knowledge among individuals from different social, cultural, and educational backgrounds.
