The material flow in solid-state, friction-stir, butt-welded AA2195-T8 was investigated using a marker insert technique (MIT). Markers made of AA5454-H32 were embedded in the path of the rotating friction stir welding (FSW) tool and their final position after welding was detected by metallographic means. Changes in material flow due to welding parameter and tool geometry variations were examined. The method provides a semiquantitative, three-dimensional view of the material transport in the… Expand
Influence of pin geometry on material flow in friction stir welding process
Abstract The material flow in friction stir welded 2014 Al alloy has been investigated using a marker insert technique (MIT). Results of the flow visualisation show that the material flow isExpand
Study on in-situ material flow behaviour during friction stir welding via a novel material tracing technology
Abstract A novel material tracing technology was proposed using ER2319 aluminium alloy welding wire as the tracer material to study the material flow behaviour at different positions of friction stirExpand
Investigation of the material flow and texture evolution in friction-stir welded aluminum alloy
The material flow and crystallographic orientation in aluminum alloy sheets joined by friction stir welding (FSW) were investigated by electron back scattered diffraction (EBSD). The microstructureExpand
Material flow during friction stir welding of Ti-6Al-4V
Abstract 6 mm thick Ti-6Al-4V butt joints were produced with a tracer material embedded in the joint under a variety of process conditions, namely rotational speed and traversing speed, in an attemptExpand
Visualization and simulation of plastic material flow in friction stir welding of 2024 aluminium alloy plates
Thin copper sheets as marker material were embedded into weld path of 2024 aluminium alloy plates and their final position after friction stir welding was examined by metallographic techniques.Expand
Dynamics of rotational flow in friction stir welding of aluminium alloys
Abstract Al 1050 and Al 6061 plates with the same thickness were configured one after the other along the welding path. During friction stir welding, the rotating tool traversed from one to the otherExpand

Interfacial sticking and slipping in the friction stir welding process
In friction stir welding (FSW), a rotating threaded weld tool is inserted into a weld seam and literally stirs the edges of the seam together. To determine optimal processing parameters for producingExpand
