PURPOSE To review the literature on limitations and adverse effects associated with scatter or panretinal laser photocoagulation (PRP) for diabetic retinopathy (DR). DESIGN Literature review. RESULTS Scatter laser photocoagulation is associated with moderate visual loss, some diminished visual field, reduced color vision, and reduced contrast sensitivity.
