In this work, we present the results of an observational study of 2I/Borisov carried out with the 10.4-m Gran Telescopio Canarias (GTC) and the 3.6-m Telescopio Nazionale Galileo (TNG), both telescopes located at the Roque de Los Muchachos Observatory, in the island of La Palma (Spain). The study includes images in the visible and near-infrared, as well as visible spectra in the 3600 - 9200 A wavelength range. N-body simulations were also performed to explore its orbital evolution and Galactic…

Activity of the first interstellar comet 2I/Borisov around perihelion: results from Indian observatories
Comet 2I/Borisov is the first true interstellar comet discovered. Here we present results from observational programs at two Indian observatories, 2 m Himalayan Chandra Telescope at the Indian
Gaseous atomic nickel in the coma of interstellar comet 2I/Borisov.
Spectroscopic observations of atomic nickel vapour in the cold coma of 2I/Borisov at a heliocentric distance of 2.322 astronomical units are reported, in line with the recent identification of this atom-as well as iron-in the cold comae of Solar System comets17.

Comet 2I/Borisov is the first interstellar comet observed in the solar system, providing a unique opportunity to understand the physical conditions that prevailed in a distant unknown planetary
The dust and gas environment of comet 8P/Tuttle
Comet 8P/Tuttle has been selected as a possible backup target for the Comet Interceptor mission (ESA). This comet was observed intensively during its previous perihelion passage, in 2008 January.
Activity of the Jupiter co-orbital comet P/2019 LD2 (ATLAS) observed with OSIRIS at the 10.4 m GTC
Context. The existence of comets with heliocentric orbital periods close to that of Jupiter (i.e., co-orbitals) has been known for some time. Comet 295P/LINEAR (2002 AR2) is a well-known
Dust environment of active asteroids P/2019 A4 (PANSTARRS) and P/2021 A5 (PANSTARRS)
We report on the characterisation of the dust activity and dynamical evolution of two faint active asteroids, P/2019 A4, and P/2021 A5, observed with the 10.4m GTC using both imaging and
Constraining the orientation of the spin axes of extrasolar minor bodies 1I/2017 U1 (‘Oumuamua) and 2I/Borisov
Context. The orientation of the spin axis of a comet is defined by the values of its equatorial obliquity and its cometocentric longitude of the Sun. These parameters can be computed from the

The visible and near-infrared spectra of asteroids in cometary orbits
Context. Dynamical and albedo properties suggest that asteroids in cometary orbits (ACOs) are dormant or extinct comets. Their study provides new insights for understanding the end-states of comets
Dust measurements in the coma of comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko inbound to the Sun
The largest orbiting clumps are meter-sized, confirming the dust/gas ratio of 3 inferred at perihelion from models of dust comae and trails.
The dust environment of comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko from Rosetta OSIRIS and VLT observations in the 4.5 to 2.9 AU heliocentric distance range inbound
The ESA Rosetta spacecraft, currently orbiting around comet 67P, has already provided in situ measurements of the dust grain properties from several instruments, particularly OSIRIS and GIADA. We
A search for the origin of the interstellar comet 2I/Borisov
The discovery of the second interstellar object 2I/Borisov on 2019 August 30 raises the question of whether it was ejected recently from a nearby stellar system. Here we compute the asymptotic
Detection of CN Gas in Interstellar Object 2I/Borisov
The detection of Interstellar Objects passing through the Solar System offers the promise of constraining the physical and chemical processes involved in planetary formation in other extrasolar
Initial Characterization of Interstellar Comet 2I/2019 Q4 (Borisov)
We present initial observations of the interstellar body 2I/(2019 Q4) Borisov taken to determine its nature prior to the perihelion in 2019 December. Images from the Nordic Optical Telescope show a
The Nucleus of Interstellar Comet 2I/Borisov
We present high resolution imaging observations of interstellar comet 2I/Borisov (formerly C/2019 Q4) obtained using the Hubble Space Telescope. Scattering from the comet is dominated by a coma of
2I/Borisov: A C2-depleted interstellar comet
Aims. The discovery of the first active interstellar object 2I/Borisov provides an unprecedented opportunity to study planetary formation processes in another planetary system. In particular,
The Dynamics of Interstellar Asteroids and Comets within the Galaxy: An Assessment of Local Candidate Source Regions for 1I/’Oumuamua and 2I/Borisov
The low velocity of interstellar asteroid 1I/'Oumuamua with respect to our galaxy's Local Standard of Rest implies it is young. Adopting the young age hypothesis, we assess possible origin systems
Initial characterization of interstellar comet 2I/Borisov
Interstellar comets penetrating through the Solar System had been anticipated for decades 1 , 2 . The discovery of asteroidal-looking ‘Oumuamua 3 , 4 was thus a huge surprise and a puzzle.
