Acetic acid (AcOH), a main component of vinegar, recently was found to suppress body fat accumulation in animal studies. Hence we investigated the effects of vinegar intake on the reduction of body fat mass in obese Japanese in a double-blind trial. The subjects were randomly assigned to three groups of similar body weight, body mass index (BMI), and waist circumference. During the 12-week treatment period, the subjects in each group ingested 500 ml daily of a beverage containing either 15 ml…

Effect of consumption balsamic vinegar on obese rats

Both kidney function and liver enzymes were improved in obese rats that consumed balsamic vinegar solution and it was concluded that balamic vinegar has an excellent nutritional beneficent and protection against obesity.

Apple Cider Vinegar Attenuates Oxidative Stress and Reduces the Risk of Obesity in High-Fat-Fed Male Wistar Rats.

It is suggested that HFD alters the oxidant-antioxidant balance, as evidenced by a reduction in the antioxidant enzyme activities and vitamin E level, and enhanced lipid peroxidation, and a modulation in trace element levels was observed when compared with HFD groups.

Anti-obesity and anti-insulin resistance effects of tomato vinegar beverage in diet-induced obese mice.

TVB prevents visceral obesity and insulin resistance via AMPK/PPARα-mediated fatty acid and glucose oxidation and improves glucose tolerance, hyperinsulinemia and HOMA-IR levels in the HF + TVB group compared to the HF group.

Effectiveness of Apple Cider Vinegar in Management of Obesity : A Randomized Controlled Trial

Apple cider vinegar can be safely prescribed for a short-term body weight reduction among obese subjects and its mechanism by which its intake is associated with weight loss and to identify its long-term side effects is needed.

A Combination of Apple Vinegar Drink with Bacillus coagulans Ameliorates High Fat Diet-Induced Body Weight Gain, Insulin Resistance and Hepatic Steatosis

Although vinegar drink, either alone or supplemented with B. coagulans, reduced food intake, attenuated body weight gain and enhanced glucose tolerance, only the supplemented drink improved the lipid serum profile and prevented hepatic HFD-induced overexpression of CD36,IL-1β, IL-6, LXR and SREBP, thus reducing lipid deposition in the liver.

Effect of Honey Vinegar Syrup on Blood Sugar and Lipid Profile in Healthy Subjects

HVS consumption (Iranian's traditional syrup) on glycemic parameters and lipid profiles in healthy individuals increased fasting insulin level and decreased TC level in the intervention group, and had an unfavorable effect on HDL-C level.

Apple cider vinegar helps rats with obesity to lose weight and there was a significant difference in weight before and after treatment between the control group and the P1 group (p=0.001), but there was no difference in final weight between the 3 groups (p =0.55).

Dietary acetic acid reduces serum cholesterol and triacylglycerols in rats fed a cholesterol-rich diet

Dietary acetic acid reduced serum total cholesterol and triacylglycerol: first due to the inhibition of lipogenesis in liver; second due to an increment in faecal bile acid excretion in rats fed a diet containing cholesterol.

It is reasonable to establish the cut-off point of VFA at 100 cm(2) as indicative of the risk of obesity-related disorders and a waist circumference of 85 cm in men and 90 cm in women approximates to this visceral fat mass.

Improvement of Obesity and Glucose Tolerance by Acetate in Type 2 Diabetic Otsuka Long-Evans Tokushima Fatty (OLETF) Rats

It was indicated that acetate was a potential compound to improve obesity and obesity-linked type 2 diabetes.

Abdominal Visceral and Subcutaneous Adipose Tissue Compartments: Association With Metabolic Risk Factors in the Framingham Heart Study

These findings are consistent with the hypothesized role of visceral fat as a unique, pathogenic fat depot and Measurement of VAT may provide a more complete understanding of metabolic risk associated with variation in fat distribution.

Body mass index variations by age and sex, and prevalence of overweight in Japanese adults

The prevalence of obesity in Japanese populations should be estimated using ethnic specific values of BMI, rather than those drawn from Caucasians who tend to have higher BMI in each age group.

Serum triglycerides and risk of coronary heart disease among Japanese men and women.

Nonfasting serum triglycerides predict the incidence of coronary heart disease among Japanese men and women who possess low mean values of total cholesterol, and adjustment for high density lipoprotein cholesterol suggests an independent role of triglycerides on the coronaryHeart disease risk.
