Acetic acid (AcOH), a main component of vinegar, recently was found to suppress body fat accumulation in animal studies. Hence we investigated the effects of vinegar intake on the reduction of body fat mass in obese Japanese in a double-blind trial. The subjects were randomly assigned to three groups of similar body weight, body mass index (BMI), and waist circumference. During the 12-week treatment period, the subjects in each group ingested 500 ml daily of a beverage containing either 15 ml… Expand
Beneficial effects of Apple Cider Vinegar on weight management, Visceral Adiposity Index and lipid profile in overweight or obese subjects receiving restricted calorie diet: A randomized clinical trial
TLDR
ACV along with RCD can be considered as an effective strategy for reducing anthropometric parameters, TG and TC level, VAI, appetite and increasing HDL-C concentration in overweight or obese individuals. Expand
Dietary coconut water vinegar for improvement of obesity-associated inflammation in high-fat-diet-treated mice
TLDR
Alterations in the gut microbiota due to an increase in the populations of the Bacteroides and Akkermansia genera by the coconut water vinegar may have helped to overcome the obesity and inflammation caused by the HFD. Expand
Pomegranate vinegar beverage reduces visceral fat accumulation in association with AMPK activation in overweight women: A double-blind, randomized, and placebo-controlled trial
TLDR
Data suggest that PV is an excellent AMPK activator and may exert beneficial effects on adiposity, with emphasis on AMPK activation. Expand
Apple Cider Vinegar Attenuates Oxidative Stress and Reduces the Risk of Obesity in High-Fat-Fed Male Wistar Rats.
TLDR
It is suggested that HFD alters the oxidant-antioxidant balance, as evidenced by a reduction in the antioxidant enzyme activities and vitamin E level, and enhanced lipid peroxidation, and a modulation in trace element levels was observed when compared with HFD groups. Expand
Anti-obesity and anti-insulin resistance effects of tomato vinegar beverage in diet-induced obese mice.
TLDR
TVB prevents visceral obesity and insulin resistance via AMPK/PPARα-mediated fatty acid and glucose oxidation and improves glucose tolerance, hyperinsulinemia and HOMA-IR levels in the HF + TVB group compared to the HF group. Expand
Effects of Zataria oxymel on obesity, insulin resistance and lipid profile: A randomized, controlled, triple-blind trial.
TLDR
Treatment with ZO and oxymel reduced insulin resistance, and waist and hip circumferences in overweight patients, and the traditional Persian use of ZO as a beverage to improve the anthropometric indices in overweight individuals still requires further research with a larger sample size. Expand
Effectiveness of Apple Cider Vinegar in Management of Obesity : A Randomized Controlled Trial
Aim of Study: To explore the effectiveness of daily intake of apple cider vinegar (300mg, tablets 3 times daily) on lowering body mass index (BMI) among obese subjects. Methodology: A total of 100Expand
A Combination of Apple Vinegar Drink with Bacillus coagulans Ameliorates High Fat Diet-Induced Body Weight Gain, Insulin Resistance and Hepatic Steatosis
TLDR
Although vinegar drink, either alone or supplemented with B. coagulans, reduced food intake, attenuated body weight gain and enhanced glucose tolerance, only the supplemented drink improved the lipid serum profile and prevented hepatic HFD-induced overexpression of CD36,IL-1β, IL-6, LXR and SREBP, thus reducing lipid deposition in the liver. Expand
Effect of Honey Vinegar Syrup on Blood Sugar and Lipid Profile in Healthy Subjects
TLDR
HVS consumption (Iranian's traditional syrup) on glycemic parameters and lipid profiles in healthy individuals increased fasting insulin level and decreased TC level in the intervention group, and had an unfavorable effect on HDL-C level. Expand
Daily red wine vinegar ingestion for eight weeks improves glucose homeostasis and affects the metabolome but does not reduce adiposity in adults.
TLDR
The results indicate that daily red wine vinegar ingestion for 8 weeks is not associated with reductions in adiposity, and provides strong rationales for larger prospective studies to further clarify associations among obesity, chronic diseases, and functional foods such as vinegar using metabolomics. Dietary acetic acid reduces serum cholesterol and triacylglycerols in rats fed a cholesterol-rich diet
TLDR
Dietary acetic acid reduced serum total cholesterol and triacylglycerol: first due to the inhibition of lipogenesis in liver; second due to an increment in faecal bile acid excretion in rats fed a diet containing cholesterol. Expand

TLDR
It is reasonable to establish the cut-off point of VFA at 100 cm(2) as indicative of the risk of obesity-related disorders and a waist circumference of 85 cm in men and 90 cm in women approximates to this visceral fat mass. Expand
Improvement of Obesity and Glucose Tolerance by Acetate in Type 2 Diabetic Otsuka Long-Evans Tokushima Fatty (OLETF) Rats
TLDR
It was indicated that acetate was a potential compound to improve obesity and obesity-linked type 2 diabetes. Expand
Contribution of visceral fat accumulation to the development of coronary artery disease in non-obese men.
TLDR
It is suggested that visceral fat accumulations may play an important role in the occurrence of CAD regardless of obesity. Expand
Acetic acid activates hepatic AMPK and reduces hyperglycemia in diabetic KK-A(y) mice.
TLDR
Results indicate that the hypoglycemic effect of AcOH might be due to activation of AMPK in the liver and sodium acetate directly activated AMPK and lowered the expression of genes such as for glucose-6-phosphatase and sterol regulatory element binding protein-1 in rat hepatocytes. Expand
Abdominal Visceral and Subcutaneous Adipose Tissue Compartments: Association With Metabolic Risk Factors in the Framingham Heart Study
TLDR
These findings are consistent with the hypothesized role of visceral fat as a unique, pathogenic fat depot and Measurement of VAT may provide a more complete understanding of metabolic risk associated with variation in fat distribution. Expand
Obesity and the risk of myocardial infarction in 27 000 participants from 52 countries: a case-control study
TLDR
Redefinition of obesity based on waist-to-hip ratio instead of BMI increases the estimate of myocardial infarction attributable to obesity in most ethnic groups. Expand
Body mass index variations by age and sex, and prevalence of overweight in Japanese adults
TLDR
The prevalence of obesity in Japanese populations should be estimated using ethnic specific values of BMI, rather than those drawn from Caucasians who tend to have higher BMI in each age group. Expand
Serum triglycerides and risk of coronary heart disease among Japanese men and women.
TLDR
Nonfasting serum triglycerides predict the incidence of coronary heart disease among Japanese men and women who possess low mean values of total cholesterol, and adjustment for high density lipoprotein cholesterol suggests an independent role of triglycerides on the coronaryHeart disease risk.
