Video-on-demand (VoD) streaming applications have evolved into one of the most popular types of applications on the Internet over the past decade. A great amount of research has been conducted to address the high bandwidth and stringent delay requirements of VoD applications on the video servers and the Internet. In this paper, we provide a broad survey of existing schemes and classify them into four categories.
