The prevalence of vesico-ureteric reflux in the general population is unknown, but it is increased in risk groups, such as children with symptomatic urinary tract infection, schoolgirls with asymptomatic bacteriuria, first-degree relatives of patients with reflux and children with prenatal dilatation of their upper urinary tract.
