SummaryThe distribution of noradrenaline und dopamine (3-hydroxytyramine) in human adult and newborn brains has been investigated. The greatest amounts of noradrenaline were found in the hypothalamus, the central gray matter of the mesencephalon, the reticular formation and in the area postrema. The highest amount of dopamine was found in the neostriatum.

The balance of biogenic amines as condition for normal behaviour

An accumulation of norepinephrin, serotonin and dopamin exists in the brainstem and a substitution by l-tryptophan restores the balance and the Dopa-psychosis disappears.

Serum dopamine-β-hydroxylase in parkinsonism

The data support the idea of a limited influence of L-Dopa on the noradrenaline synthesis and release in parkinsonism.

Brain-noradrenaline and 3-methoxy-4-hydroxyphenylglycol in Parkinson's syndrome

1. Significantly reduced values of noradrenaline in Parkinson's disease were observable in all brain areas which were studied. 2. A topographic distribution of free 3-methoxy-4-hydroxyphenylglycol

SummaryThe MAO activity (tyramine substrate) was measured in 17 different brain regions, the spinal cord, and 13 different organs of four patients with Huntington's disease and three patients with

Die moderne medikamentöse Behandlung des Parkinsonismus

The administration of L-DCPA effected an improvement in the akinesia for a short time only, and a combination of l-DOPA with a decarboxylase inhibitor (Ro4-4602) produced a more intensive effect over a longer period.

The possible role of dopamine, the other important catecholamine, in the affective disorders will be considered here.

Sydenham's chorea

Results suggest a decrease in cerebral dopamine release in both forms of chorea in patients with Huntington's disease and those with Sydenham's chorea.

dl-threo-DOPS as a precursor of noradrenaline

In rats,dl-threo-DOPS is an effective peripheral precursor of NA but the drug itself has no effect on brain catecholamines and may, however, enhance levodopa effects in the brain.

Effect on the monoamine-metabolism of the mouse brain by experimentalHerpes simplex infection

There is a significantly more rapid improvement under treatment with the combination of levodopa and an inhibitor of peripheral decarboxylase, and the two modes of administration showed approximately the same effect on the clinical symptoms.
