Serum Renin substrate (angiotensinogen) concentration was determined in 32 healthy controls, 16 patients with acute viral hepatitis, and 29 patients with liver cirrhosis (10 patients were decompensated). In the acute and convalescent stage of hepatitis, angiotensinogen is diminished to 72–81% of the normal mean value. In the cirrhotic group, angiotensinogen shows a significant decrease down to 50%.
