Cardiovascular diseases account for approximately 50% of deaths in patients on chronic haemodialysis. Therefore we prospectively studied 54 consecutive patients on dialysis for the presence or absence of ventricular late potentials (LP). LP, i.e. low-amplitude potentials in the terminal part of the QRS complex, have been shown to be highly indicative of life-threatening arrhythmias and sudden death.
