The hippocampus plays an important role in central stress integration. The present study tests the hypothesis that the ventral subiculum, as a principal source of hippocampal efferents, is involved in co-ordination of hypothalamo-pituitary-adrenocortical and behavioural responses to cognitively-processed information.
