Abstract

Venous thromboembolism (VTE), which includes deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE), is a major public health challenge globally with substantial morbidity and mortality. DVT is a blood clot that forms in major veins of the limbs, pelvis or other large veins in the body. It is often asymptomatic and under diagnosed leading to long term complications particularly PE; hence it is often called a ‘silent killer’.
