Endothelial cells (ECs) line the inside of arterial and venous blood vessels in a continuous monolayer and have the important function of responding to environmental cues to regulate vascular tone and new blood vessel formation. They also have well-defined roles in supporting tumorigenesis, and alterations in their function lead to cardiovascular disease.
