Vasoactive hormones: modulators of renal function

Abstract

Integrative aspects of the modulat ion of renal blood flow (RBF), sodium excretion, and pressuredependent renin release by noradrenaline, neuropeptide Y (NPY), angiotensin (Ang) II, atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP), arginine vasopressin (AVP), and nitric oxide (NO) are described briefly by reviewing the results of earlier and more recent animal experiments. The studies from our laboratory were all made under physiological conditions in trained chronically instrumented, conscious dogs on a standard sodium diet (~ 110 mmol/day).
