Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is a potent mitogen capable of stimulating angiogenesis. We examined the effect of VEGF administration in a model of chronic porcine myocardial ischemia. Nineteen pigs were instrumented with proximal left circumflex coronary artery (LCX) Ameroid constrictors.
