The 11-year history of the work that began in 1948 and resulted in the isolation of varicella-zoster virus (VZV) has been published. [1] In 1958, I presented these definitive results along with Witton and Bell. [2,3] By 1983, I was able to review 25 years of progress [4] and to diagram my impression of the natural history of an infection with VZV. I concluded from our findings and the findings of others that the interaction between VZV and its host is a dynamic process. In this paper, I wish…

Reactogenicity and immunogenicity of a varicella vaccine in healthy seronegative and seropositive subjects.

The study showed that there was no difference in reactogenicity in initially seropositive vaccinees compared with initially seronegative subjects, and the varicella vaccine was found to be safe and well tolerated in all age groups.

Postherpetic neuralgia: impact of famciclovir, age, rash severity, and acute pain in herpes zoster patients.

The results indicated that greater age, rash severity, and acute pain severity are risk factors for prolonged PHN and demonstrated that treatment of acute herpes zoster patients with famciclovir significantly reduces both the duration and prevalence of PHN.

Antiviral prophylaxis for varicella zoster in immunocompromised patients (excluding haematological malignancies)

This Protocol was withdrawn from the Cochrane Library in Issue 7, 2015, as the authors were unable to complete the review.

The effect of an Intravenous Ketamine Infusion on Postherpetic Neuralgia

We focused on 40 patients with the persistent pain more than 4 weeks after neuropathic pain started, among all the patients who were treated for zoster from January 2007 to September 2009 in the our

Isolated neck extensor myopathy

Patients with ``isolated neck extensor myopathy,'' a term the authors prefer to ``dropped head syndrome,'' could be readily identified with electrophysiologic, radiographic, and histologic studies.

Whether a shorter duration of apnea testing is preferable is being investigated by us right now, and PaCO2 immediately after fulfillment of the 60 mm Hg criterion and at the end of the apnea test were determined.

The results indicate that nondemented subjects who scored poorly on specific neuropsychological measures had an increased risk of eventually being diagnosed with schizophrenia.

Left ventricular function and rapid release of creatine kinase MB in acute myocardial infarction. Evidence for spontaneous reperfusion.

With increasing left ventricular damage, patients with rapid release had greater increments in creatine kinase MB than comparable patients with slow release, suggesting enzyme washout, consistent with the idea that spontaneous reperfusion, leading to altered enzyme release and improvement in ventricular function, is not uncommon after acute myocardial infarction.
