BACKGROUND Acinetobacter baumannii-calcoaceticus complex (ABC) isolates are often multidrug-resistant, including to carbapenems. Chromogenic media can facilitate the rapid detection of Gram-negative bacteria, often with the addition of supplements to a base chromogenic medium to detect resistance.
