Variation in millipede (Diplopoda) assemblages in oak woodlands of the Eastern European Plain was studied based on 46 soil samples collected from the vast territory: from west (Moldova and the extraCarpathian part of western Ukraine) to east (Ural Mountains), and from south (central Ukraine and Russia) to north (subtaiga region) covering 4 vegetation belts: steppe, forest-steppe, deciduous forests and mixed forests. Altogether, 30 species were found in the samples. The millipede assemblages…

Distribution of millipedes (Myriapoda, Diplopoda) along a forest interior – forest edge – grassland habitat complex
TLDR
The number of millipede species was significantly lower in the grassland than in the forest or in the edge, however there were no significant difference in the number of species between the forest interior and the forest edge.
Choosing sampling methods for Chilopoda, Diplopoda and Isopoda (Oniscidea): A case study for ferruginous landscapes in Brazilian Amazonia
Abstract The edaphic fauna plays an important role in the organic matter dynamics of the soil. Millipeds (Diplopoda), centipeds (Chilopoda) and isopods (Isopoda) are among the main components of the
Habitats and seasonality of riparian-associated millipedes in southwest Washington, USA
TLDR
Insight is provided into the patterns and distribution of riparian-associated millipedes in the Pacific Northwest and multiple regressions relating millipede abundance/presence to environmental conditions are reported.
Character of woodland fragments affects distribution of myriapod assemblages in agricultural landscape
TLDR
Results showed that activity-density of myriapods is positive correlated with thickness of the leaf litter layer, and the species richness of centipedes is positively correlated with increasing size of fragments of woodland although higher centipede’ activity- density was found in rather uniform woodlands in term of diversity of tree species.
The structure and seasonal dynamics of myriapods (Chilopoda and Diplopoda) in the southern taiga of the Perm Cis-Urals Region
TLDR
The spatial and temporal dynamics of myriapod assemblages in the Preduralye protected area (Kishertskii District, Perm Territory) is studied and the horizons of the application of the landscape-phenological classification of species are discussed, as well as the consideration of phenological patterns during invertebrate surveys.
New records of millipedes (Diplopoda) from European Russia and Abkhazia, Caucasus
New faunistic records are provided for 18 millipede species from the European part of Russia or Abkhazia, Caucasus. Among them, a recent, likely anthropochore expansion of the European Craspedosoma
Millipedes (Diplopoda) from the Zemplén Mountains, Northeast Hungary, with two julid species new to the Hungarian fauna
TLDR
New data of millipedes from 92 sites in Northeastern Hungary are presented, based on the examination of more than 1300 individuals, finding 25 millipede species, two Carpathian species are new to the fauna of Hungary.
Recovery of ground-dwelling assemblages during reforestation with native oak depends on the mobility and feeding habits of the species
TLDR
It is confirmed that reforestation with native oak after mechanical soil treatment had detrimental effects on both studied ground-dwelling arthropod groups and suggested that soil preparation and light tilling should be omitted during the reforestation and cultivation of the reforested stands.

Macroarthropod-habitat Relationships in Oak Forests in South Belgium .1. Environments and Communities
TLDR
Woodlouse and millipede assemblages were studied in nine deciduous oak-forest stands located in the three geomorphologically distinct regions of the Viroin-Hermeton Natural Park, South Belgium and marked regional structure of the edaphic conditions linked to humus type and soil texture was revealed.
Belowground biodiversity in a Mediterranean landscape: relationships between saprophagous macroarthropod communities and vegetation structure
TLDR
The results are discussed from the viewpoint of conserving the pool of millipede and woodlouse species and of maintaining the abundance of saprophagous macroarthropods in the region's ecosystems.
Deskriptive, experimentelle und vergleichende Untersuchungen zur Autökologie rhein-mainischer Diplopoden
TLDR
The ecology of 14 millipede-species of the Rhein-Main-region was analysed by descriptive, experimental and comparative methods, showing that some species are not fully agreeing with environments, whereas other millipedes like the stenoecic Orthochordeuma germanicum are completely adapted to their habitat.
Phylogenetic biogeography of a Holarctic group: the julidan millipedes. Cladistic subordinateness as an indicator of dispersal
TLDR
The method of phylogenetic bio- geography of Hennig & Brundin is applied and the degree of cladistic subordinateness of an outlying taxon is used as an indicator of whether its occurrence is due to recent dispersal or to non-response to vicariance event.
Qualitative and quantitative spatial variation in soil wire-worm assemblages in relation to climatic and habitat factors
TLDR
Large-scale variation in both species composition and alpha diversity of wire-worm assemblages of oak forests along a latitudinal gradient in Central Russia is considered.

Canonical correspondence analysis and related multivariate methods in aquatic ecology
TLDR
After pointing out the key assumptions underlying CCA, the paper focuses on the interpretation of CCA ordination diagrams and some advanced uses, such as ranking environmental variables in importance and the statistical testing of effects are illustrated on a typical macroinvertebrate data-set.
Data analysis in community and landscape ecology
TLDR
The aim of this book is to provide a history of numerical methods in practice in the context of ecological data collection and its application to Dune meadow data.
Multivariate Analysis of Ecological Data using CANOCO
TLDR
This chapter discusses the design of experiments in randomised complete blocks, the use of Canoco, and the effects of explanatory variables on the results of these experiments.
A Theory of Gradient Analysis
TLDR
This chapter presents a theory of gradient analysis, in which the heuristic techniques are integrated with regression, calibration, ordination and constrained ordination as distinct, well-defined statistical problems.
