This study examines how defendant firms use their political connections as part of a litigation defense. I document that firms anticipating litigation seek the help of politicians and make political contributions. I find that sued firms try to affect the lawsuit outcome and contribute during litigation. Cases of politically connected defendant firms are more quickly resolved, are more likely to get dismissed or moved to another court, and less likely to get settled.
