Reliability validation of safety-critical flight control systems requires accurate simulation models of the aircraft dynamics. [] Key Method The analysis is extended to nonlinear systems in conjunction with Monte Carlo simulations to validate an uncertain aircraft simulation model. This approach is demonstrated using the University of Minnesota Unmanned Aerial Vehicle flight test platform.

An analysis of flying qualities for UAVs on a Simulink model of an LJ-25D developed from Calspans Variable Stability System points to utilizing a combination of classical aircraft literal factors, such as ζsp and CAP, with newly developed mathematical techniques to assess the workload of the flight controller and performance during the maneuver.

Evaluating the Autonomous Flying Qualities of a Simulated Variable Stability Aircraft

This research effort is intended to serve as a precursor for real-world flight testing using the NF-16D Variable stability In-flight Simulator Test Aircraft (VISTA), and suggest techniques by which workload and performance metrics can be used to specify design requirements for UAVs.

Evaluation of Unmanned Aircraft Flying/Handling Qualities Using a Stitched Learjet Model

Over the past 20 years, unmanned aircraft have taken over military missions that were deemed to be too “dull, dirty, or dangerous” for manned aircraft. The urgent demand for aircraft that can execu...
