Abstract Angle-resolved photoemission using unpolarised He I and Ne I radiation has been used to investigate several surface phases formed by iodine adsorption on Ni{100} and previously identified by LEED and Auger electron spectroscopy. A low temperature adsorption phase is confirmed as being of molecular iodine, while chemisorbed phases show a single iodine-induced extra photoemission peak associated with I 5p z -derived states which shows little dispersion.
