We study the false vacuum decay and bubble nucleation in the presence of a cosmic string in dS spacetime. A cosmic string induces a deficit angle in spacetime around itself so the nucleated bubble has the shape of a rugby ball. Working in thin wall approximation and using the junction conditions we study the dynamics of the bubble wall and calculate the Euclidean action. An interesting feature in our analysis is that the tension of the string is screened by the bubble such that an observer…

On catalyzed vacuum decay around a radiating black hole and the crisis of the electroweak vacuum

False vacuum decay is a key feature in quantum field theories and exhibits a distinct signature in the early Universe cosmology. It has recently been suggested that the false vacuum decay is

Higgs chameleon

The existing constraints from particle colliders reveal a suspicious but nonlethal meta-stability for our current electroweak vacuum of Higgs potential in the standard model of particle physics,

Vacuum decay in the Lorentzian path integral

We apply the Lorentzian path integral to the decay of a false vacuum and estimate the false-vacuum decay rate. To make the Lorentzian path integral convergent, the deformation of an integration

Stability of charged thin-shell and thin-shell wormholes: a comparison

In this paper, we are interested to compare the stability of geometrical structures of self-gravitating charged thin-shell and thin-shell wormholes in the presence of different types of matter

Non-Gaussian bubbles in the sky

We point out a possible generation mechanism of non-Gaussian bubbles in the sky due to bubble nucleation in the early universe. We consider a curvaton scenario for inflation and assume that the

Vacuum polarization by a cosmic string in de Sitter spacetime

In this paper we investigate the vacuum polarization effect associated with a quantum massive scalar field in a higher dimensional de Sitter spacetime in the presence of a cosmic string. Because this

Metric perturbations from quantum tunneling in open inflation.

The parameters of the models of open inflation are constrain so that these modes do not distort the observed temperature anisotropy of the microwave background.

Dynamics of false-vacuum bubbles.

The possibility of localized inflation is investigated by calculating the dynamics of a spherically symmetric region of false vacuum which is separated by a domain wall from an infinite region of true vacuum, and it is suggested that this mechanism is likely to lead to an instability of Minkowski space.

Bubble nucleation and inflationary perturbations

In this work we study the imprints of bubble nucleation on primordial inflationary perturbations. We assume that the bubble is formed via the tunneling of a spectator field from the false vacuum of

Black holes as bubble nucleation sites

A bstractWe consider the effect of inhomogeneities on the rate of false vacuum decay. Modelling the inhomogeneity by a black hole, we construct explicit Euclidean instantons which describe the

False vacuum decay with gravity in the non-thin-wall limit

We consider a wave-function approach to the false vacuum decay with gravity and present a new method to calculate the tunneling amplitude under the WKB approximation. The result agrees with the one

Vacuum decay and bubble nucleation in f(R) gravity

In this work we study vacuum decay and bubble nucleation in models of f(R) higher curvature gravity. Building upon the analysis of Coleman-De Luccia (CDL), we present the formalism to calculate the

Open inflation in the landscape

Open inflation scenario is attracting a renewed interest in the context of string landscape. Since there are a large number of metastable de Sitter vacua in string landscape, tunneling transitions to
