PURPOSE OF REVIEW Enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC) remain major causes of infantile diarrhea in the developing world and of travelers' diarrhea in visitors to these areas from industrialized countries, although the relative importance of these pathogens in these settings may be decreasing.
