Utilisation of oil palm by-prodUcts as rUminant feed in malaysia

title={Utilisation of oil palm by-prodUcts as rUminant feed in malaysia},
  author={Wong Hee Kum and M. W. Zahari},
The main by-products from the oil palm industry are palm kernel expeller (PKE), palm oil sludge (POS), palm pressed fibre (PPF), oil palm fronds (OPF) and oil palm trunks (OPT). The use of these by-products in ruminant feeding systems has been widely reported in Malaysia, and it is estimated that 2.2 million tonnes PKE, 2.2 million tonnes POS, 13 million tonnes of PPF, 35 million tonnes OPF and 9 million tonnes of OPT were available as feeds for ruminants in 2008. This article discusses the… Expand
Effects of replacement of para-grass with oil palm compounds on body weight, food intake, nutrient digestibility, rumen functions and blood parameters in goats
Increased dry matter intake in T2 and T3 suggested that oil palm by-products are partly useful as a replacement for para-grass in goats, which suggested that these products are a useful energy source. Expand
Nutrient Digestibility and Apparent Bioavailability of Minerals in Beef Cattle Fed with Different Levels of Concentrate and Oil-palm Fronds
Objective: This experiment was carried out to determine the effects of various levels of concentrate and oil-palm fronds (OPF) on nutrient digestibility and apparent mineral bioavailability in beefExpand
Effects of xylanase and cellulase supplementation on early growing stage, caecal bacteria population and fermentation profiles of broiler fed with palm kernel meal
E enzyme supplementation in 20% palm kernel meal diet was only effective in improving the body weight of broilers at growing phase but not in the starter phase, and data show that nbutyrate have a toxic effect on coliform bacteria and Salmonella spp. Expand
The Utilisation of Palm Oil and Oil Palm Residues and the Related Challenges as a Sustainable Alternative in Biofuel, Bioenergy, and Transportation Sector: A Review
The importance of energy demands that have increased exponentially over the past century has led to the sourcing of other ideal power solutions as the potential replacement alternative to theExpand
Superstructure-based synthesis and optimisation of an oil palm eco-industrial town: a case study in Iskandar Malaysia

The present study deals with the cultivation of Trichoderma sp. for the production of cellulase in lignocellulosic materials. The highest cellulase activity was determined under optimal conditions ofExpand

Utilization of oil palm frond - based diets for beef and dairy production in Malaysia.
Good quality OPF silage can be produced without using any additive and the significant improvement on the rate of growth and milk yield were shown and long-term feeding of OPF based feeds have been shown to produce good quality carcasses, and the meat is safe for consumption. Expand
Use of palm kernel cake and oil palm by-products in compound feed.
Compound feed is a mixture of feed ingredients obtained from various sources. A feed ingredient is only a constituent of a compound feed and if used as the sole ration fed, has to be enrichedExpand
Nutritive value of palm kernel cake and cocoa pod husks for growing cattle
The results of feed intake, nutritive value and nitrogen balance studies of palm kernel cake (PKC) and cocoa pod husks (CPH) diets for growing cattle were reported. Intake of dry matter and organicExpand
The protective role of zinc in palm kernel cake (PKC) toxicity in sheep.
It was concluded that feeding PKC In excess in sheep can cause chronic copper toxicity, however, this effect can be prevented by dietary zinc supplementation either with or without ammonium molybdate. Expand
