  • Microarray technology developed in the late 1990’s allows one to simultaneously analyze the entire transcriptome of a given population of cells at a single time. It is essentially a microchip with each spot containing about a picogram of DNA immobilized at defined locations. This DNA captures mRNA or cDNA from defined cell populations (tissue, cell line, etc) in a quantitative manner.
