Due to historical factors and political circumstances, Singapore has implemented and emphasized bilingual teaching in the national curriculum to nurture the new generation to become effectively bilingual individuals. The national mandate is an effort to produce bilingual citizens who will become communicators with a strong sense of cultural identity and economic competitiveness.
