Sir, In 2002, we saw the emergence of carbapenem resistance in clinical isolates of Acinetobacter baumannii isolated from patients at two local hospitals, Groote Schuur Hospital (GSH) and Tygerberg Hospital (TH), Western Cape, South Africa.
