BACKGROUND We have previously reported Signal Transducer and Activator of Transcription 3 (STAT3) to be constitutively activated in aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH)(+)/cluster of differentiation-133 (CD133)(+) colon cancer-initiating cells.
