Since overproduction of estrogens could conceivably play a role in the pathologic physiology of Cushing’s syndrome, an attempt was made to isolate, identify, and quantitate the urinary estrogens excreted by a 58-year-old postmenopausal woman with metastatic adrenocortical carcinoma and Cushing’s syndrome. By means of countercurrent distribution and paper chromatography, estrone and estriol were identified and isolated in a fluorometrically homogeneous form. During the control period the patient… Expand
THE FEMINIZING SYNDROME IN MALE SUBJECTS WITH ADRENOCORTICAL NEOPLASMS.
TLDR
The neoplasms of the adrenal cortex associated with feminization are not intrinsically of higher metastasizing potential than adrenocortical tumors of other types and are not considered to be produced by any "specific" hypothetic type of cell. Expand
Manifestations of Hypersecretion of Adrenal Sex Steroids in Man
TLDR
This chapter is confined to the consideration of certain clinical syndromes in the human being which are attributed to adrenocortical disease and in which manifestations of feminization or masculinization occur. Expand
17-Ketosteroids and Arteriosclerosis*t
TLDR
The inadequacies of the dietary lipid theories are pointed out to show how the internal regulators, namely, enzymes and hormones, can be disregarded or given only a behind-the-scene place. Expand
Sex hormone secretion by the adrenal cortex
TLDR
The evidence regarding the nature and amount of sex hormones secreted by the adrenal cortex is summarized, with primary emphasis on physiological rather than malignant states. Expand
Chapter 1 – Estrogens
TLDR
This chapter discusses the criteria for the assessment of methods and procedures of estrogens, and a high degree of specificity is the most difficult to achieve, although sensitivity is often a problem. Expand

One of the chief characteristics of tumors of the adrenal cortex is their tendency to produce changes in the sexual characteristics of the person affected, which is not what one would expect from a study of adrenal insufficiency. Expand
DISEASES OF THE ADRENAL GLANDS: II. TUMORS OF THE ADRENAL CORTEX, DISEASES OF THE ADRENAL MEDULLA AND ALLIED DISTURBANCES
TLDR
It is surprising to find that no one has catalogued the symptoms as they have been described in the reports of cases which have been published, and there has been a tendency to use the "classic" case as the basis for endocrine hypotheses and implications which are not limited to this particular subject, but which bear on other current endocrine problems as well.
