Uranium is the primary fuel for nuclear power generation. To a very much greater extent than for other fuels to produce electricity it must undergo processing both at the mine and subsequently to prepare it for use. This typically doubles the cost of the product from the mine. The article describes the processes at different kinds of uranium mines and the subsequent U-235 isotope concentration, known as enrichment, with the preparatory conversion to a form which is readily gasified.
