Previous studies have demonstrated that arginine vasopressin (AVP) produces exaggerated renal vasoconstriction in young spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) relative to normotensive rats. The exaggerated renal vascular reactivity does not appear to be due to a primary defect in postreceptor calcium signal transduction.
