Lyme borreliosis is caused by Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato infection, which responds well to antibiotic therapy in the overwhelming majority of cases. However, despite adequate antibiotic treatment some patients report persisting symptoms which are commonly summarised as post-treatment Lyme disease syndrome (PTLDS). In 2005, the Swiss Society of Infectious Diseases published a case definition for PTLDS. We aimed to review the scientific literature with a special emphasis on the last 10 years…

Posttreatment Lyme Disease Syndrome-What It Might Be and What It Is Not.

To narrow down the controversially handled entity of posttreatment Lyme disease syndrome (PTLDS), case definitions have been proposed, acknowledging PTLDS as a complex of nonspecific, subjective symptoms, which are neither caused by ongoing infection nor by any other identifiable disease.

Non-specific symptoms and post-treatment Lyme disease syndrome in patients with Lyme borreliosis: a prospective cohort study in Belgium (2016–2020)

In this study, PTLDS was present in both LB cohorts, yet with a higher percentage in disseminated/late LB patients, and risk factors were identified.

A multidisciplinary team dedicated to suspicion of LB may achieve a more precise diagnosis and better patient-centered medical support in the adapted clinical sector with a shorter delay, enabling clinical improvement and avoiding inappropriate antimicrobial prescription.

Myositis Autoantibodies in Patients with Suspected Post-Treatment Lyme Disease Syndrome

The study detected raised MSA/MAA autoantibodies formation in the group of PTLDS patients raising the question about their involvement in the pathogenesis of this syndrome.

Immune Responses to Some Viral Infections That Have a High Evolutionary Potential—A Case Report with Literature Review

The case of a male patient who presented with Lyme disease, post-treatment Lyme disease syndrome, Kawasaki disease, and MISC-C incomplete form, which allowed him to survive these diseases relatively easily, unlike other individuals who have an exaggerated immune response or who suffer from serious immune involvement.

Evaluating polymicrobial immune responses in patients suffering from tick-borne diseases

A causal association between TBD patients and TBD associated co-infections and essential opportunistic microbes following Bradford Hill’s criteria is established and a paradigm shift is required in current healthcare policies to diagnose TBD so that patients can get tested and treated even for opportunistic infections.

RETRACTED ARTICLE: Evaluating polymicrobial immune responses in patients suffering from tick-borne diseases

Perceptions, Representations, and Experiences of Patients Presenting Nonspecific Symptoms in the Context of Suspected Lyme Borreliosis

The patients’ expectations identified here could help physicians better understand the doctor–patient relationship in these complex management situations, which would reduce the burden of the disease.

The term “chronic Lyme disease” has come to have a different and broader meaning than evidencebased descriptions of B. burgdorferi infection, and only a minority of patients with this diagnosis has evidence of preceding B. intruder infection.

PTLDS may persist for >10 years in some patients with culture-confirmed early Lyme disease, and such long-standing symptoms were not associated with functional impairment or a particular strain of B. burgdorferi.

Biliary complications in the treatment of unsubstantiated Lyme disease.

Treatment of unsubstantiated diagnoses of Lyme disease is associated with biliary complications, and patients with bile duct disease are more likely than were antibiotic controls to have received ceftriaxone and to be under 18 years old.
