We have grown untwinned YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O$_{7-\delta}$ (YBCO) films on (110) MgO substrates that were pre-annealed at high temperature in oxygen atmosphere. The annealing results in surface reconstruction with shallow facets, which induce the suppression of the YBCO twinning domains, and the preferential alignment of the CuO chains along one of the in-plane directions of the sample. Because of the large mismatch between the in-plane lattice parameters of film and substrate, the strain induced by…

During the last years we have witnessed colossal advancements in all-electrical doping control on cuprates. In the vast majority of cases, the tuning of charge carrier density has been achieved via
Revival of Smooth MgO(100) Surface: Ar Ion‐Beam Milling and Postvacuum Annealing in Oxygen Atmosphere
A recreation procedure for achieving the smooth and clean surface morphology of the degraded MgO(100) substrates is presented. The surfaces of the degraded MgO(100) substrates are treated with Ar
Restored strange metal phase through suppression of charge density waves in underdoped YBa2Cu3O7–δ
TLDR
The researchers found that suppressing CDW restored the linear-in-temperature resistivity of highly strained, ultrathin, underdoped YBa2Cu3O7–δ films when the CDW amplitude, detected by resonant inelastic x-ray scattering, is suppressed.
Restoring the Planckian regime via suppression of charge density waves in an underdoped cuprate superconductor
The normal state of cuprates is dominated by the "strange metal" phase that, near optimal doping, shows a linear temperature dependence of the resistivity persisting down to the lowest $T$, when
Mobile orbitons in Ca2CuO3 : Crucial role of Hund's exchange
We investigate the CuL3 edge resonant inelastic x-ray scattering (RIXS) spectra of a quasi-1D antiferromagnet Ca2CuO3. In addition to the magnetic excitations, which are well-described by the

Stabilization of three-dimensional charge order in YBa2Cu3O6+x via epitaxial growth
TLDR
Three-dimensional charge order can be stabilized in YBCO films and studied without using the high magnetic fields that are necessary in the bulk material, and thus efficiently transmit CO correlations between adjacent CuO2 bilayer units.
