In this paper we present an effective unsupervised colour im age segmentation algorithm which uses multiscale edge info rmation and spatial colour content. The multiscale edge informatio n is extracted using the dual-tree complex wavelet transfor m. Binary morphological operators are applied to the edge informatio n to detect seed regions which are large enough to exclude bou ndaryonly regions.
