The evaluative character of a word is cal led i ts semantic orientation. A positive semantic ori entation impl ies desirabi l i ty (e.g., “ honest” , “ intrepid” ) and a negative semantic orientation impl ies undesi rabi l i ty (e.g., “ disturbing” , “ superf luous” ).
