In this work we further extend the investigation of holographic gauge theories in external magnetic fields, continuing earlier work. We study the phenomenon of magnetic catalysis of mass generation in 1+3 and 1+2 dimensions, using D3/D7- and D3/D5-brane systems, respectively. We obtain the low energy effective actions of the corresponding pseudo Goldstone bosons and study their dispersion relations. The D3/D7 system exhibits the usual Gell-Mann–Oakes–Renner (GMOR) relation and a relativistic…

Magnetic Catalysis of Chiral Symmetry Breaking: A Holographic Prospective

We review a recent investigation of the effect of magnetic catalysis of mass generation in holographic Yang-Mills theories. We aim at a self-contained and pedagogical form of the review. We provide a

Hot Defect Superconformal Field Theory in an External Magnetic Field

In this paper we investigate the influence of an external magnetic field on a flavored holographic gauge theory dual to the D3/D5-brane intersection at finite temperature. Our study shows that the

Holographic spectral functions in metallic AdS/CFT

We study the holographic D3/D7 setup dual to = 4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills with quenched fundamental matter. We extend the previous analyses of conductivity and photoproduction to the case where

E, B, μ, T phase structure of the D3/D7 holographic dual

The large N$ \mathcal{N} = 4 $ gauge theory with quenched $ \mathcal{N} = 2 $ quark matter displays chiral symmetry breaking in the presence of a magnetic field. We previously studied the temperature

Inverse magnetic catalysis in field theory and gauge-gravity duality

We investigate the surface of the chiral phase transition in the three-dimensional parameter space of temperature, baryon chemical potential and magnetic field in two different approaches, the

A holographic quantum Hall ferromagnet

A bstractA detailed numerical study of a recent proposal for exotic states of the D3-probe D5 brane system with charge density and an external magnetic field is presented. The state has a large

AC conductivities of a holographic Dirac semimetal

A bstractWe use the AdS/CFT correspondence to compute the AC conductivities for a (2+1)-dimensional system of massless fundamental fermions coupled to (3+1)-dimensional Super Yang-Mills theory at

Holography in External Fields and in Time Dependent Backgrounds

Holographic models, i.e. theories describing higher-dimensional gravitational physics in terms of lower-dimensional models without gravitation and vice versa, come in two guises in string theory: The

Inverse magnetic catalysis in dense holographic matter

We study the chiral phase transition in a magnetic field at finite temperature and chemical potential within the Sakai-Sugimoto model, a holographic top-down approach to (large-Nc) QCD. We consider

Nambu-Goldstone mode in non-equilibrium systems from AdS/CFT correspondence

We investigate dispersion relation of Nambu-Goldstone mode in a dissipative system realized by the AdS/CFT correspondence. We employ the D3/D7 model which represents ${\cal N} = 4$ supersymmetric

Toward a holographic model of superconducting fermions

We use the AdS/CFT correspondence to study = 4 supersymmetric SU(Nc) Yang-Mills theory, in the limits of large Nc and large 't Hooft coupling, coupled to a number Nf of massless hypermultiplet fields

Flavoured Large N Gauge Theory in an External Magnetic Field

We consider a D7-brane probe of AdS$_{5}\times S^5$ in the presence of pure gauge $B$-field. In the dual gauge theory, the $B$-field couples to the fundamental matter introduced by the D7-brane and

Transport properties of holographic defects

We study the charge transport properties of fields confined to a (2+1)-dimensional defect coupled to (3+1)-dimensional super-Yang-Mills at large-Nc and strong coupling, using AdS/CFT techniques

Goldstone bosons in presence of charge density

We investigate spontaneous symmetry breaking in Lorentz-noninvariant theories. Our general discussion includes relativistic systems at finite density as well as intrinsically nonrelativistic systems.

Criticality, scaling and chiral symmetry breaking in external magnetic field

We consider a D7-brane probe of AdS5 × S5 in the presence of pure gauge B-field. The dual gauge theory is flavored Yang-Mills theory in external magnetic field. We explore the dependence of the

Towards a holographic dual of large- N c QCD

We study N f D6-brane probes in the supergravity background dual to N c D4-branes compactified on a circle with supersymmetry-breaking boundary conditions. In the limit in which the resulting

AdS/CFT with flavour in electric and magnetic Kalb-Ramond fields

We investigate gauge/gravity duals with flavour for which pure-gauge Kalb-Ramond B fields are turned on in the background, into which a D7 brane probe is embedded. First we consider the case of a

We compute the meson spectrum of an = 2 super Yang-Mills theory with fundamental matter from its dual string theory on AdS5 × S5 with a D7-brane probe [1]. For scalar and vector mesons with arbitrary

Holographic mesons in various dimensions

Following the analysis of [1], we calculate the spectrum of fluctuations of a probe Dk-brane in the background of N Dp-branes, for k = p,p+2,p+4 and p<5. The result corresponds to the mesonic

Spin-wave scattering in the effective Lagrangian perspective

Nonrelativistic systems exhibiting collective magnetic behavior are analyzed in the framework of effective Lagrangians. The method, formulating the dynamics in terms of Goldstone bosons, allows us to
