Abstract

1. At its tenth session (A/AC.105/637, annex II, para. 11), the Working Group of the Whole to Evaluate the Implementation of the Recommendations of the Second United Nations Conference on the Exploration and Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (UNISPACE 82) recommended that several studies on space applications should be carried out to demonstrate the potential of space technology with emphasis on the needs of developing countries. The Working Group of the Whole identified a number of possible subjects for such studies, including the use of new technologies in satellite communications and information networks.
