In this paper we develop a common theoretical framework for the dynamics of thin featureless interfaces. We explicitly demonstrate that the same phase field and velocity dependent one-scale models characterizing the dynamics of relativistic domain walls, in a cosmological context, can also successfully describe, in a friction dominated regime, the dynamics of nonrelativistic interfaces in a wide variety of material systems. We further show that a statistical version of the von Neumann's law… Expand
Comparing parametric and non-parametric velocity-dependent one-scale models for domain wall evolution
We perform a detailed comparison between a recently proposed parameter-free velocity-dependent one-scale model and the standard parametric model for the cosmological evolution of domain wallExpand
Interface networks in models of competing species
TLDR
All the results provided by the soliton topological model are in agreement with the stochastic simulations and may be used as a tool for understanding the complex biodiversity in nature. Expand
Parameter-free velocity-dependent one-scale model for domain walls
We develop a parameter-free velocity-dependent one-scale model for the evolution of the characteristic length $L$ and root-mean-square velocity $\sigma_v$ of standard domain wall networks inExpand
Observational Constraints on Varying-alpha Domain Walls
We consider the possibility that current hints of spatial variations of the fine structure constant at high redshift, based on VLT/UVES and Keck/HIRES observations, could be caused by a biased domainExpand
String networks with junctions in competition models
Abstract In this work we give specific examples of competition models, with six and eight species, whose three-dimensional dynamics naturally leads to the formation of string networks with junctions,Expand
Highly interactive kink solutions
In this work we present a new class of real scalar field models admitting strongly interactive kink solutions. Instead of the usual exponential asymptotic behavior these topological solutions exhibitExpand
String networks in ZN Lotka–Volterra competition models
Abstract In this Letter we give specific examples of Z N Lotka–Volterra competition models leading to the formation of string networks. We show that, in order to promote coexistence, the species mayExpand
Increasing the reactive surface area of a Li three dimensional negative electrode by morphology control
The theoretical grounds establishing the ideal composition, temperature, and time to attain the highest interconnected interface area within a liquid miscibility gap were developed. A three dimensionExpand
Stability of domain walls in models with asymmetric potentials
We study the evolution of cosmological domain walls in models with asymmetric potentials. Our research goes beyond the standard case of spontaneous breaking of an approximate symmetry. When theExpand
