N-methyl-D,L,-aspartate (NMA), an analog of the excitatory neurotransmitter aspartate, has been previously shown to acutely stimulate LH release in the rodent and primate. In this study, we examine the effect of NMA on LH secretion in the long term ovariectomized adult rhesus monkey.
