Abstract A new form of tungstene trioxide characterized by a cubic pyrochlore structure has been isolated by soft chemistry, using the thermolysis of the tetragonal hydronium tungstate: (H 3 O) 20+x (W 4 O 6 ) 1/3−x/12 W 32 O 108 . The anhydrous WO 3 absorbs atmospheric water leading to the oxide WO 3 ·O, 5H 2 O without destruction of the structure. The structural study of the hydrated cubic pyrochlore WO 3 ·O, 5H 2 O shows that the host lattice W 2 O 6 is stoichiometric and that the water… CONTINUE READING
