This is a review of some recent works which demonstrate how the classical equations of gravity in AdS themselves hold the key to understanding their holographic origin in the form of a strongly coupled large $N$ QFT whose algebra of local operators can be generated by a few (single-trace) elements. I discuss how this can be realised by reformulating Einstein's equations in AdS in the form of a non-perturbative RG flow that further leads to a new approach towards constructing strongly…

Developing local RG: quantum RG and BFSS
In this paper we study various forms of RG and apply these to the BFSS model of N coincident D0-branes. Firstly, as a warm-up, we perform standard Wilsonian RG, investigating the conditions under
Breakdown of locality in quantum gravity
In recent years, we've gained increasing evidence that some degree of nonlocality will be fundamental to the eventual theory of quantum gravity. The objective of this thesis is to investigate various
Holographic spacetime, black holes and quantum error correcting codes: a review
This article reviews the progress in our understanding of the reconstruction of the bulk spacetime in the holographic correspondence from the dual field theory including an account of how these
Applied Holography
This is a collection of notes based on lectures given at IIT Madras in September 2019 and at IFT Madrid in November 2019. It is supposed to be a concise (and therefore not comprehensive) and
DC conductivity with external magnetic field in hyperscaling violating geometry
We investigate the holographic dc conductivity of (2+1) dimensional systems while considering hyperscaling violating geometry in the bulk. We consider Einstein-Maxwell-Dilaton system with two gauge

Holography as a highly efficient renormalization group flow. I. Rephrasing gravity
We investigate how the holographic correspondence can be reformulated as a generalisation of Wilsonian RG flow in a strongly interacting large $N$ quantum field theory. We firstly define a
Holography as a highly efficient renormalization group flow. II. An explicit construction
We complete the reformulation of the holographic correspondence as a highly efficient renormalization group (RG) flow that can also determine the UV data in the field theory in the strong-coupling
On the holographic renormalization group
We propose a direct correspondence between the classical evolution equations of $5-d$ supergravity and the renormalization group (RG) equations of the dual $4-d$ large $N$ gauge theory. Using
Spacetime emergence via holographic RG flow from incompressible Navier-Stokes at the horizon
A bstractWe show that holographic RG flow can be defined precisely such that it corresponds to emergence of spacetime. We consider the case of pure Einstein’s gravity with a negative cosmological
The unconditional RG flow of the relativistic holographic fluid
A bstractWe study asymptotically slowly varying perturbations of the AdS black brane in Einstein’s gravity with a negative cosmological constant. We allow both the induced metric and the Brown-York
On the universal hydrodynamics of strongly coupled CFTs with gravity duals
It is known that the solutions of pure classical 5D gravity with $AdS_5$ asymptotics can describe strongly coupled large N dynamics in a universal sector of 4D conformal gauge theories. We show that
Anti-de Sitter space and holography
Recently, it has been proposed by Maldacena that large $N$ limits of certain conformal field theories in $d$ dimensions can be described in terms of supergravity (and string theory) on the product of
AdS/CFT connection between Boltzmann and Einstein equations: Kinetic theory and pure gravity in AdS space
The AdS/CFT correspondence defines a sector with universal strongly coupled dynamics in the field theory as the dual of pure gravity in AdS described by Einstein's equation with a negative
Gravitation from entanglement in holographic CFTs
A bstractEntanglement entropy obeys a ‘first law’, an exact quantum generalization of the ordinary first law of thermodynamics. In any CFT with a semiclassical holographic dual, this first law has an
Holographic and Wilsonian renormalization groups
We develop parallels between the holographic renormalization group in the bulk and the Wilsonian renormalization group in the dual field theory. Our philosophy differs from most previous work on the
