Infrared transmission measurements on the S=1 antiferromagnetic chain compound NENP [Ni(C2H8N2)2NO2ClO4] in applied magnetic fields show a sharp absorption line at the field-shifted Haldane gap. This violates a wave-vector selection rule of the Hamiltonian normally used for NENP, as the gap excitations occur at the Brillouin zone boundary. We argue that the crystal structure admits terms which can explain the absorption lines. The observation of a finite gap at all applied fields can be…

Spin dynamics under high magnetic field in the Haldane-gap system NENP
Abstract We have reinvestigated the low-energy spin dynamics of the nearly one-dimensional S = 1 antiferromagnet Ni(C2H8N2)2NO2ClO4 (alias NENP) in higher applied magnetic fields up to 12 T. The
Electron spin resonance in the S=1 quasi-one-dimensional Heisenberg antiferromagnet Ni(C5H14N2)2N3(PF6)
We have performed electron spin resonance (ESR) measurements on the S=1 quasi-one-dimensional Heisenberg antiferromagnet, Ni(C5H14N2)2N3(PF6) in the field induced long range ordered (LRO) phase. From
Field-induced order in anisotropic Haldane spin chain
Abstract The field-induced long-range antiferromagnetic order in the quasi-one dimensional S=1 antiferromagnet is investigated with the exact diagonalization of finite chains and the mean field
Polarization analysis of the electron spin resonance lines in the S=1 one‐dimensional antiferromagnet Ni(C3H10N2)2NO2ClO4
The results of electron spin resonance (ESR) measurements on the S=1 one‐dimensional Heisenberg antiferromagnet Ni(C3H10N2)2NO2ClO4 (NINO) are reported. We have analyzed the polarization dependence
Field-induced effects in the S = 1 two-dimensional Heisenberg antiferromagnet
We use the self-consistent harmonic approximation to study the spin S = 1 Heisenberg antiferromagnet on a two-dimensional lattice in a uniform applied magnetic field. The magnetic field destroys the
Field-induced transition of the Haldane antiferromagnets
The field-induced long-range antiferromagnetic order in the quasi-one-dimensional S=1 antiferromagnet is investigated with the exact diagonalization of finite chains and the mean field approximation
Dynamics of an anisotropic Haldane antiferromagnet in a strong magnetic field
We report the results of elastic and inelastic neutron-scattering experiments on the Haldane-gap quantum antiferromagnet Ni(C 5 D 1 4 N 2 ) 2 N 3 (PF 6 ) performed at mK temperatures in a wide range
Field-induced effects of anisotropic magnetic interactions in SrCu2(BO3)2
We observed a field-induced staggered magnetization in the 2D frustrated dimer singlet spin system SrCu2(BO3)2 by 11B NMR, from which the magnitudes of the intradimer Dzyaloshinsky–Moriya interaction
Effects of Randomness on Field-Induced Phase Transition in the Bond-Alternating S=1 Spin Chain NTENP
We report novel effects of randomness in [Ni( N , N '-bis(3-aminopropyl)propane-1,3-diamine(µ-NO 2 )]ClO 4 (NTENP), an S =1 bond-alternating linear antiferromagnet with a dimer-singlet ground state.
Magnetic resonances and magnetization in the spin ladder compound (VO)2P2O7
Abstract We present experimental results of magnetic susceptibility, magnetization and magnetic resonances on the S = 1 2 spin ladder system vanadyl pyrophospate [(VO)2P2O7]. In this system a
