Four hundred eighty five patients whose chief complaints were work related pain and other symptoms received a comprehensive upper-body clinical evaluation to determine the extent of their illness. The group had a mean age of 38.5 years. Sixty-three percent of patients were females. Seventy percent were computer users, 28% were musicians, and 2% were others engaged in repetitive work. The time between the onset of symptoms and our initial visit ranged from 2 weeks to over 17 years. A majority…

The identification of patterns of physical findings that reflect the function of the peripheral nerves appears to be a rewarding diagnostic procedure in subjects with upper limb symptoms, which indicates the diagnostic feasibility of the examination and can contribute to explain symptoms in workers such as computer operators.

Upper limb neuropathy in computer operators? A clinical case study of 21 patients

This small-scale study of a clinical case series suggests the association of symptoms to focal neuropathy with specific locations with serious prognosis was serious in terms of work-status and persisting pain.

Idiopathic arm pain.

The wide variations observed in the DASH scores of the patients with idiopathic pain and those with discrete diagnoses are greater than would be expected on the basis of the variations in the objective pathological conditions and may reflect the strong influence of psychological and sociological factors on health status measures.

Neurochemicals including glutamate, substance P, and calcitonin gene-related peptide have been identified in patients with chronic tennis elbow and in animal models of tendinopathy, and their presence provides an alternative mechanism for pain mediation.

Psychological factors associated with idiopathic arm pain.

awareness of the psychological factors associated with idiopathic arm pain may lead to more effective interventions designed to improve coping mechanisms while at the same time limiting the use of meddlesome and potentially harmful diagnoses and treatments.

Histopathological findings indicate that tennis elbow is a degenerative condition of the common extensor tendon, with the extensor carpi radialis brevis tendon more commonly implicated as the primary location of tendinosis.

Differential diagnosis and physical therapy management of a patient with radial wrist pain of 6 months' duration: a case.

A 57-year-old man with right radial wrist pain was diagnosed with entrapment neuropathy of the superficial radial nerve, rather than De Quervain syndrome, and treated with active and passive exercises using neurodynamic techniques.

Using risk factors, myoelectric signal, and finger tremor to distinguish computer users with and without musculoskeletal symptoms

Regression analysis revealed that median frequency of the FDS EMG at 25% MVC, age, total time spent on computer, and mouse position were better factors to classify computer users into the symptomatic group compared to other factors obtained from questionnaire and physical exam.

A cross-sectional study of the relation between symptoms and physical findings in computer operators

This small-scale study of a group of computer-operators currently in work and with no or minor upper limb symptoms has indicated in symptomatic subjects the presence of peripheral nerve-afflictions with specific locations.
