This study aims to analyse Russian oil & gas and banking industries from the point of view of M&A activity. In a form of case study, a brief history of M&A deals in both industries is presented and analysed in a context of Russian culture and economic environment. The study suggests that Russia is an extremely interesting and important example of a transitioning economy that could be useful for analysis of M&A activity in emerging markets.
