En el año 2000 se publicó la descripción un nuevo género de Theraphosidae. La especie tipo Bonnetina cyaneifemur Vol, 2000, presenta un parche de sedas urticantes tipo III en la parte dorsal del opistosoma, bulbos pedipalpales con un subtégulo largo y extendido y tarsos menos anchos que los metatarsos; características por las que fue situada dentro de la Subfamilia Theraphosinae.
