This dissertation aims at analysing how the many references to metatheatricality in Shakespeare's Troilus and Cressida makes the audience aware of the seeming omnipotent power of stage managers - during the Elizabethan era - and directors - in modern times - in influencing the opinion the spectators have of the characters.
