Ultrastructural observations of spermatogenesis and sperm development of Saccocoelioides godoyi, an intestinal parasite of Leporinus friderici (Bloch, 1794) are described. The irregular-shaped spermatogonia form a peripheral layer, and show a prominent nucleus. Spermatocytes are larger than spermatogonia, and in the early stage present synaptonemal complex. Spermatids show nuclei smaller than the spermatocytes. Spermiogenesis is characterized by outgrowth of the zone of differentiation… Expand

TLDR
The ultrastructural study of spermiogenesis and the spermatozoon of Paramphistomum microbothrium gave evidence of some characteristics of this digenean, including a spine-like body that has never been described before in a digenesan. Expand

TLDR
The ultrastructural study of spermiogenesis and the spermatozoon of Paramphistomum microbothrium gave evidence of some characteristics of this digenean, including a spine-like body that has never been described before in a digenesan. Expand
SPERMIOGENESIS AND SPERMATOZOON ULTRASTRUCTURE OF THE CRANIAL DIGENEAN TROGLOTREMA ACUTUM (LEUCKART, 1842)
TLDR
Ultrastructure of spermiogenesis and the main characters of the mature spermatozoon of Troglotrema acutum are described by means of transmission electron microscopy and are compared with other digenean species previously studied. Expand

TLDR
It appears that the number of cortical microtubules and their localization in the spermatozoon may be an interesting feature of their phylogeny. Expand
SPERMIOGENESIS AND ULTRASTRUCTURE OF THE SPERMATOZOON OF THE LIVER FLUKE FASCIOLA GIGANTICA COBBOLD, 1856 (DIGENEA: FASCIOLIDAE), A PARASITE OF CATTLE IN SENEGAL
TLDR
This study describes for the first time the simultaneous presence of dorsolateral cytoplasmic expansion, external ornamentation of the plasma membrane, and spinelike bodies in the spermatozoon of a trematode. Expand
Ultrastructure of spermiogenesis and spermatozoa of Notocotylus neyrai González Castro, 1945 (Digenea, Notocotylidae), intestinal parasite of Microtus agrestis (Rodentia: Arvicolidae) in Spain
TLDR
The mature spermatozoon of N. neyrai is filiform and tapered at both ends and presents all the features found in the Digenea gamete: two axonemes, mitochondrion, nucleus and two bundles of parallel cortical microtubules. Expand
Description of spermatogenesis and sperm ultrastructure of Acanthostomum (Atrophocaecum) aswaninesis Wannas, 1977 (Digenea, Acanthostomatidae), a parasite of Bagrus bayad in Egypt
TLDR
The spermiogenesis process and spermatozoon organization of A. (A.) aswaninesis match the general pattern found in the digenea, but certain peculiarities are characteristic and differentiate the sperm of this fluke from that of other digenetic trematodes. Expand
Sperm ultrastructure of the digenean Siphoderina elongata (Platyhelminthes, Cryptogonimidae) intestinal parasite of Nemipterus furcosus (Pisces, Teleostei)
TLDR
The ultrastructure of the spermatozoon of Siphoderina elongata was studied by transmission electron microscopy and a close attention was paid to the organization of the external ornamentation region. Expand

The ultrastructure of the spermatozoon and spermiogenesis in Cryptocotyle lingua (digenea: Heterophyidae)
TLDR
During spermiogenesis two lateral flagellar processes and a median process arising from the apex of the zone of differentiation, fuse to form the elongated unipartite spermatozoon, which contains dense lamellar subunits arranged in a spiral in the long axis. Expand

TLDR
Cross sections of the head and the middle region of mature spermatozoa show the nucleus with strong condensed chromatin, the mitochondria with short cristae, peripheral microtubules and two axonemes with a 9 + 1 pattern, confirming the characteristics of this genus. Expand

TLDR
Spermiogenesis is similar to the general scheme in the Cercomeridae and particularly the polyopisthocotylean monogeneans, but shows two remarkable characteristics: the zone of differentiation for each spermatid is separated by a region without longitudinal microtubules but with many mitochondria, herein termed the pre‐zone of differentiation.
